Bandai is a Japanese toy and video game company, as well as a producer of plastic model kits. It is the world's third largest toy manufacturer after Mattel and Hasbro. Founded in 1950, Bandai began by producing racing car sets and later progressed to making various types of toys, becoming the leading toy company of Japan by the 1980s. After the merger with game developer and amusement facility operator Namco, Bandai Company, Limited is now under the management of Namco Bandai Holdings and a member of Bandai Namco Group.

With the success of the company, Bandai started to expand and open subsidiaries in various countries such as U.K. and U.S.A. Bandai America is the American distribution arm of Bandai and makes toys for the U.S. market. Formed in 1978, Bandai America currently holds the license for a umber of popular children's shows and toys such as "Power Rangers", "Ben10", and "Pac-Man and The Ghostly Adventures". Some of Bandai America's partners include Cartoon Network and Warner Brothers

Bandai America was contracted by Warner Brothers to produce toys based on their new 2011 ThunderCats cartoon series. However, Bandai also produced a few figures based on the original 1980s ThunderCats cartoon show. At the 2011 New York Toy Fair, Bandai unveiled its ThunderCats toylines.
