Into The Astral Plane is an episode from the re-imagined series of ThunderCats. Written by Paul Giacoppo, it originally aired on November 18, 2011.
Story[]
After learning that the Spirit Stone is in the Elephant Village, the ThunderCats such back to it in the ThunderTank. En route, seeing Cheetara supporting Lion-O, Tygra gets quite jealous. He then remembers how he met Cheetara when both of them were very young. Tygra used to be a guard while Cheetara was trying to join the Clerics. After failing her trial once, Cheetara is eventually given a second chance by Jaga when he feels that she has acquired the patience needed to pass the trial.
When the Cats reach the Elephant Village, they are shocked to see Grune and the Lizard Army are already there and have taken the Elephants hostage. While Grune struggles to get any sort of useful information out of the forgetful Elephants, Lion-O suggests a secret attack on the Lizards at nightfall. When Cheetara supports his decision over Tygra’s of going in all guns blazing, the striped Cat feels even more dislike for his brother.
At nightfall, the ThunderCats proceed quietly and cautiously, defeating a number of Lizards until WilyKit blows their cover when she tries to stop Grune from killing Aburn. Grune then orders the Cats to surrender or else he will kill the Elephants. The ThunderCats comply and then Grune forces Lion-O to use the Sword of Omens to open the portal to the Astral Plane that is located in a hut. While Lion-O is doing this, Tygra, who had slipped away earlier, returns in the ThunderTank and tips the scales back in the Cats’ favor. The heroes then succeed in sending Grune and his army retreating.
With the enemy threat eliminated, the ThunderCats stand before entrance to the Astral Plane. Anet warns Lion-O that the Astral Plane is a dangerous place where thought turns into reality. After a brief argument, Tygra, who is still upset with Lion-O, enters the portal. Just before Lion-O also goes in, Anet tells Lion-O that before the evening bell of the next day rings, Tygra will betray him. Stunned and confused by this warning, Lion-O nevertheless enters the portal. Mumm-Ra, who had been hiding in plain sight as a raven, also flies in to the portal.
