Marvel UK was an imprint of Marvel Comics formed specifically to cater for the British comic market. Formed in 1972, Marvel UK focused mainly on reprinting U.S. Marvel comics for the United Kingdom. The imprint started by publishing mostly black and white reprints of "The Hulk", "Spider-Man" and "Fantastic Four". Following their success, Marvel UK expanded its production to publish a number of different titles, eventually establishing itself as a major publisher of weekly comic titles in the United Kingdom. After a successful run lasting many years, Marvel decided to close the United Kingdom arm in 1995.
Marvel UK also published reprints of Star Comics' ThunderCats issues with the first issue being published in March of 1987. Unlike Star Comics , Marvel UK's issues were published weekly until issue #84, when it became a fortnightly publication. Issue #95 began the start of monthly publication which lasted until issue #105, when a fortnightly publishing schedule was resumed up to #129, the final issue, in January of 1991. Apart from the regular comics, Marvel UK also had various seasonal specials, trade paperbacks and annual comics of the ThunderCats.
