Mumm-Rana is an ancient sorceress for good, and counterpart to Mumm-Ra. She lives in the White Pyramid on Third Earth, where her powers keep her from traveling too far. In her normal mummified form, she spends much of her time resting on an ornate smooth stone platform in order to avoid energy expenditure. She obtains her powers form the Ancient Spirits of Good.
Like Mumm-Ra, she can transform into a much more powerful form which she does by chanting: "Ancient Spirits of Good, transform this gentle form to Mumm-Rana, the Ever Good!" While in her Ever-good form, Mumm-Rana is extremely powerful. She also has great magical powers which she can use against any opponent. However, the more time she spends outside her pyramid in this ever-good form, the more of her energy is depleted and she must return back quickly to replenish that lost energy.
Mumm-Rana once battled Queen Luna, a direct ancestor of the Lunataks' leader, to stop her rampage across Third Earth. Mumm-Rana managed to defeat Queen Luna by stripping the tyrant of her magical belt, which Mumm-Rana kept as a trophy. Many years later, however, it was recovered by Queen Luna's granddaughter and namesake, Luna, who used her grandmother's belt to become more powerful. Fortunately, the belt was later recovered, and ultimately destroyed.
Mumm-Ra once hypnotized her into believing that the ThunderCats were evil, and tricked her into battling them. She succeeded in defeating the ThunderCats and encasing the Sword of Omens in an unbreakable cocoon. Only when Lion-O managed to convince her that the ThunderCats were good and the Mutants and Mumm-Ra were evil, was her trance broken. At that point, Mumm-Rana then turned on Mumm-Ra and the Mutants.
