Return to Thundera - Part III is an episode from the original series of ThunderCats. Written by Peter Lawrence, it originally aired on September 6, 1989.
Summary[]
Mumm-Ra sends Ma-Mutt disguised as Mandora to free the Mutants from the Circus Train. The Mutants are then ordered to get rid of Tygra and Pumyra back on Third Earth.
Story[]
At their first council meeting inside the partially constructed New Cats Lair, the ThunderCats discuss the events that have happened including the unexplained earth tremors and the distress call from the Thunderian refugees. Lion-O instructs Cheetara, Lynx-O and Bengali to search for the refugees in all quadrants of New Thundera. Panthro meanwhile unveils the Whisker, a new tracking vehicle that he and the ThunderKittens had just finished developing. Hoping that the Whisker’s probes will help them determine the cause of the earth tremors, the ThunderCats decide to take the vehicle out for its maiden trip.
While piloting the Whisker, the ThunderCats suddenly find themselves trapped inside an unbreakable magnetic field which pulls them inside a massive spaceship known as Dome-Down. Once inside the ship, they discover the Thunderian Refugees that they were searching for. Soon the captor of the ThunderCats and the refugees reveals himself. The evil villain happens to be a two headed robot known as Two-Time who has the ability to alter gravitational and magnetic fields at will.
Lion-O then summons the other ThunderCats who quickly head towards Dome-Down. While flying towards Lion-O’s location, the ThunderCat trio spot Mumm-Ra at the Churning Rocks. They soon reach Dome-Down but by then Lion-O had already taken care of Two-Time as well as freed the Thunderian Refugees. As Cheetara, Lynx-O and Bengali escort the refugees to New Cats Lair, Lion-O, Panthro and the ThunderKittens head to Churning Canyon to pursue Mumm-Ra.
Mumm-Ra on the other hand, irate that his plan to destroy the ThunderCats had not worked, tries to once again trick Jagara by taking on the form of Jaga. He again convinces Jagara that the ThunderCats are indeed false and she starts to rip out the controls of the Mighty Gyroscope, hoping to destroy the “false ThunderCats” and their lair.
The ThunderCats arrive in the Great Beneath just in time to stop Jagara. Using the Sword of Omens, Lion-O and Panthro reveal Mumm-Ra’s true form to Jagara. With his ruse foiled, Mumm-Ra flees from the scene but not before revealing that he still is in possession of the Gyroscope’s regulator, and without it the device will eventually fail and lead to the destruction of New Thundera.
