Telepictures (formerly known as Telepictures Corporation) is an American television and film production company. It currently operates as a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Television.
Michael Garin founded Telepictures in 1978 to operate as a television syndication company. Among the many programs that Telepictures syndicated, were the popular Rankin/Bass TV specials and their animated series, such as ThunderCats and SilverHawks. In 1983, the company outright bought Rankin/Bass.
In January 1986, the company merged with Merv Adelson and Lee Rich's Lorimar Productions, forming "Lorimar-Telepictures". The new company started production and distribution of shows like "Dallas" and "Knots Landing", while still continuing to syndicate the Rankin/Bass shows.
In 1989, Lorimar-Telepictures was purchased by and folded into Warner Bros. and its television syndication arm eventually assumed distribution of all the Lorimar-Telepictures' programs, including ThunderCats and SilverHawks. Warner Bros. have had the rights to theses series from that point on.
