Story[]
The Memory Crystal:[]
Written by John Freeman
Art by Martin Griffiths, Dozy & Chris Matthews
The story begins with Bengali rushing through the Berbil village to tell Ro-Bear Bill that he remembers everything! We discover that the new ThunderCats had forgotten their rescue by the Vanguard of Ro-Bear and the memories have just returned to Bengali. The Berbil leader takes the ThunderCat to a huge underground cavern beneath the village. Surrounded by advanced technology, Ro-Bear Bill explains that his people used to be violent but changed their ways for the benefit of themselves and others. Consequently, their only way to protect their technology is to wipe the memories of those who learn about it. But the enormous crystal which does this was damaged when the Berbillion fought Lion-O. Only the Sword of Omens can repair it, or the Berbils will be forced to revert to their vicious state.
Bengali agrees to fetch the sword and sneaks into the Sword Chamber through a secret passage the Berbils inserted when they built Cats’ Lair. Bengali is caught by Lion-O and the two fight. He confesses the problem so Lion-O gives him the Star of Thundera to use instead as it is more powerful. Bengali returns to the Berbils who repair the crystal which causes him to pass out. Later, he wakes up at Cats’ Lair, surrounded by his concerned friends. They have all missed a day but cannot remember what happened...
Plun-DarrCat:[]
Written by Steve Alan
The story begins one evening in Castle Plun-Darr with Jackalman’s constant cowardice and moaning annoying his fellow Mutants. The next day, Vultureman demonstrates a copy of Lion-O that he has built to Slithe. The Mutant leader is pleased and they send the robot off to cause chaos amongst the ThunderCats. Unfortunately, Jackalman is moping in the forests on the way to Cats’ Lair and is fooled by the fake. He gathers his courage and attacks it, returning to Castle Plun-Darr to announce his victory over the Lord of the ThunderCats, much to the rage of his fellow Mutants!
Features[]
- Mini-Poster 55 by Martin Griffiths and Euan Peters reproduces the cover art from Issue 61.
- Sight Beyond Sight previews Issue 83.
- The Kit and Kat Club comedy strip.
Trivia[]
- The Memory Crystal refers back to events in Berbils Ho! (Issue 50). Unfortunately, basing the story on the premise that the ThunderCats' memories of Berbil technology have been suppressed contradicts Trial by Fire, part 3 (Issue 78) when Lynx-O reminds Pumyra that he was able to land Vanguard of Ro-Bear on Third Earth with Jaga's help.
- Plun-DarrCat is a standalone text story. There is a nice reference to Bad Playmates, part 2 (Issue 73) when Snarf recognises the Thunderdecoys as fakes because their eyes are the wrong colour. In this story, it is noted that Vultureman had avoided the same mistake with his Lion-O robot.
