The story begins with Panthro telling the Thunderkittens off for flying their spaceboards around the head of Cats’ Lair as it interferes with the optics. Later, the other ThunderCats are reminding Panthro about his own mischievous behaviour as a child on Thundera when Tygra picks up the signal of a Thunderian spaceship coming from Hook Mountain. They arrive in the Thundertank and are joined by Pumyra, Lynx-O and Bengali.

Jaga warns Lion-O to be wary of dark forces at work and the ThunderCats are caught in a terrible blizzard and only with the help of the Sword of Omens do they find the Ark Ship. It appears undamaged but Lion-O hesitates to enter. Cheetara and Lynx-O tell him that there may be injured Thunderians on board so he reveals Jaga’s warning and they move inside cautiously. The ship brings back memories of the escape from Thundera and Panthro is able to activate the logs, revealing that the Sargasso is a time ship. When they are unable to find anyone on board, the ThunderCats decide to activate the ship and attempt to return to Thundera to avert its destruction.

When they awaken, they find themselves still in orbit around Third Earth and almost out of fuel. Panthro is able to crash land the ship on the Plain of Fertility but there is no sign of Cats’ Lair. They make for the Berbil village but find a ruin with frightened inhabitants. Ro-Bear Belle doesn’t recognise them – and nor does Mayor Slithe! The ThunderCats quickly defeat the startled Mutants but they are chased away by the Berbils who believe that Mumm-Ra has sent them as a trick. Nearby, Bengali and Pumyra are attacked by the Berserkers but quickly defeat them too, remarking on how soft their enemies have become. Tygra and Panthro have completed repairs on the ship by the time the other return but still need Thundrillium. The ThunderCats realise that they are neither in the past or future but on a Third Earth that they never reached.

They resolve to head to the Black Pyramid and defeat Mumm-Ra to break his hold on the planet. They travel through lush farmland rather than desert. It is tilled by slaves of every species from Tuskas to Wollos. As they reach the Onxy Pyramid, the ThunderCats charge, scattering the Thugron guards and slaves alike. They are greeted by Mumm-Ra who invites them into his chambers. He offers them a life of luxury and a place in his army. When the ThunderCats refuse and attack, he defeats them with ease. When all seems lost, time freezes and Shapeshade appears. He tells the ThunderCats that he created this illusion to remind them of their importance on Third Earth and that Thundera is in their past, not their future. They are returned to the real Third Earth and make their way home.

The Homecoming:[]

Written by John Tomlinson
Art by Martin Griffiths, Simon Coleby, Stuart Bartlett and Nancy Hazel

Snarf is at the Lair alone, griping that he has to clean and prepare the huge Rammastide feast all by himself. Then, a traveling salesman named Clemuel Poontang shows up to try to sell him everything from a vacuum cleaner to a set of encyclopedias, only to make a huge mess! The ThunderCats arrive, only to report the Tower of Omens has been completed ahead of schedule and that they've all been invited there for dinner anyway. So the mess doesn't matter! Everybody is feelng the Rammastide love, except for the saleman, who gets stuffed in a snowbank.

ThunderCats Bullet Point Trivia[]

  • This is the first time The Price of Pride is published outside the United States so readers had a long wait for this follow-on story to Siege in Silver and Stone which was published in Marvel Comics Issues 1 and 2. It also demonstrates the publishers' intention to reuse all the material already published by Star Comics.
