The story begins with a frantic Wilykat telling Lion-O that Wilykit has been kidnapped near the Berbil village by a horrible figure called Puzz-Lar. When Lion-O arrives outside Puzz-Lar’s fortress with Wilykat, Snarf, Panthro, Pumyra and Cheetara, the villain makes their weapons vanish. He tells them that he intends to defeat them and add Third Earth to his collection of planets.
Entering Puzz-Lar’s fortress, the ThunderCats manage to retrieve their weapons from the Maze of Time. Next, they encounter an elderly humanoid rodent named Ray-mond. He shows them the portraits of all Puzz-Lar’s previous victims. To defeat their next puzzle, they must find the ten Wilykits hidden in a mosaic depicting their defeat. Once accomplished, they and Ray-mond are attacked by Sludge Monsters, all that remains of Puzz-Lar’s previous opponents. Using the light from the Sword of Omens to keep the monsters at bay, the ThunderCats smash through the floor and escape. Puzz-Lar then takes the form of Jaga to confuse them, but they see through his trick and rescue Wilykit.
The ThunderCats see that Puzz-Lar is growing weaker but before they can defeat him, he conjures their enemies from Third Earth to do battle against them. He follows this up with the Ultimate Foe, made up of parts of different enemies they have defeated! As the ThunderCats work together to defeat it, the wall to Puzz-Lar’s throne room is smashed down and they come face to face with their tormentor. In the confusion, Panthro is able to throw the ultimate foe through another wall, defeating it. Lion-O then uses the Sword of Omens to defeat Puzz-Lar’s final trick, causing the fortress to collapse into rubble as they escape.
