Wildstorm was an American comic book publisher. Founded in 1992 by renowned comic book artist Jim Lee, the studio came into existence after a number of artists and creators working in the comic-book industry came together to form Image Comics. Apart from publishing common American comics, Wildstorm also released creator-owned material and licensed properties from other companies, covering a wide variety of genres. Their primary publications took place in their main shared fictional universe known as "Wildstorm Universe", which featured typical costumed heroes in various scenarios. Wildstorm was bought by DC Comics in 1999 and became one of its publishing imprints. The imprint was eventually shut down in December of 2011.

Beginning in 2002, a wave of ThunderCats mini-series were published by DC Comics through its Wildstorm imprint. DC Comics is a subsidiary of Warner Bros. who acquired the rights for the franchise when it purchased the distributor Lorimar-Telepictures in 1989. Almost two decades after the end of the original cartoon series, Wildstorm took on the challenge of publishing new comics based on the original 1980s show but featuring completely new stories.

The Wildstorm ThunderCats comic series debuted with five mini-series, each consisting of 5 issues. These were followed by three crossover issues, two origins issues and one sourcebook.
